Reptile & Amphibian Surveys

As a preserve with a variety of topography, from grasslands & woods, to ponds & riparian areas, Southwest Nature Preserve offers habitats for a wide variety of animals.

To explore the types of “herps”, (from the same root word as herpetology, the study of reptiles and amphibians) one of our Friends, Michael Smith, initiated a survey at SWNP in 2020. The survey is an ongoing project, and if you would like to help find and document herps there (as Covid restrictions allow), you can contact Michael at livesinnature@outlook.com.
